The design of normal flat slabs has evolved since the mid fifties, when the first post-tensioned slabs were built. Experience has enabled methods and criteria to be improved with greatly simplified structural design techniques, such as the load-balancing method along with the equivalent frame and finite element method are now widely used.
The preferred post-tensioned slab system in Dubai is well proven bonded tendon utilizing from 2 to 5 strands housed in oval ducting anchored in flat fan shaped anchorage castings. Stressing is carried out strand by strand using lightweight, portable jacking equipment.

VOIDED PT SLABS
New Post Tension System was adopted, the Voided PT slab, a construction technique developed in U.S.A. & Europe, was applied in Estidama Pearl 3 rated project for Siemens Head Quarters in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E.. The concept centers on replacing the non working concrete dead load with light weight recycled material of maximum span of 15m carried without any requirement of drop beams. ESF was keenly involved in successfully coordinating for the execution of the voided PT slab with different trades.
